OVERVIEW

Native Woodland Trust! The Native Woodland Trust is an NGO (Non-Governmental Organization) “dedicated to the preservation of Ireland’s remaining ancient woodlands.” It is also “committed to the restoration of Ireland’s original climax ecosystem through the re-creation of woodlands, using only native seed”. This projects is about how to design a native Android app and to provide a useful app to those who are interested in nature and looks for wooded areas such as trails and sites to visit or go for a walk or to protect the areas.

PROBLEM

There are no similar applications that includes three or more features inside like Native Woodland Trust app. There are only single applications that are focused to serve single purposes such as plant identification apps or national park apps. Users need handy applications which provides more than only one feature. We have noted that It is frustrating for most of the users to go three or more pages or steps to find themselves where they want to be on a mobile app therefore, we made it possible set everything on a single page

SOLUTION

We have put several features in a single app so that the users can take the advantage of it. The application makes it easy to navigate through the forest areas or to find trails and sites. Users can also use tree identification feature to learn more about the nature and diseases or how to treat plants in the right way.

USERS

The application is available and easy to use almost by everyone. Expected usage age target is 15 yrs and above. Application can be very famous among those who are interested in spending time in nature.

User Research

We have done some researches and found out that that It is frustrating for most of the users to go three or more pages or steps to find themselves where they want to be on a mobile app therefore, we made it possible set everything on a single page

  • Clean Layout
  • Image album
  • Filter
  • Quick detailed description
  • Map info
  • Menu
  • Activities and Facilities
  • Expanded FAB button
  • Trail info with available image and link
  • Reviews

Users

Users age, profession and their interests are considered before they are chosen for the user test. It is vital to know what it is like for both young and middle aged users when they use the application for the first time so that we can improve the quality of the design to create more user-friendly app so that everyone can use it.

User Test

User Test has been done monitored in person. Time usage for each participant was approximately between 15-20min. After the test is done, we have noted all advices and improvement suggestions

Mostly liked areas

Issues in terms of mostly liked things about the app And its functionality:

  • Pure and Modern Design
  • Not eye tiring
  • Good and enough content for all pages
  • Good functionality, app speaks to sense of nature lovers
  • Good UI/UX content management

How Usability Might Be Improved

  • FAB Button

Our purpose was to create fancy look and keep some space on some pages with FAB. But it did not work as good as we expected.

All Users has been asked to share the page with someone, but most of them could not guess the share

Button could be hidden inside the FAB and some of the users did not notice it because of its colour

Solution

We can put both navigation and share button visible on pages instead of using FAB.

WHAT I HAVE LEARNED?

  1. I created this project in figma and It took a week for me to prepare this project. I have learnt that how important it is create something that would speak to their needs in a short time and how crucial it is capture the users attention in seconds. It is not always easy to find ways to get in touch with users and catch their attention so that they can interested in your products. Thanks to this assignment I have learnt different skills to catch the online users attention with creating outstanding  e-commerce designs
  2. User research considering every single details in many different ways, and if those variables are available for filtering purposes, they would rather have more, not less options.
